Full Job Description
- Coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a wide range of infrastructure development projects, helping them to gain development consent
- Working with clients and design teams to identify environmental constraints, avoid impacts and develop solutions, as well as delivering benefits where possible
- Coordinating the preparation of environmental assessment reports
- Post-planning consent support to projects (including during project construction and operation) Projects AECOM are at the forefront of delivering Environmental Impact Assessments for the nationally significant infrastructure projects that are providing for our future. Key projects include sustainable energy generation and distribution and water distribution. Here's what you'll do: As an Apprentice Environmental Practitioner you will be required to support a team of Environmental Impact Practitioners. Responsibilities will also include but are not limited to:
- Supporting project directors, managers and wider project teams in the delivery of projects, including environmental impact assessments.
- Assisting in the delivery of project outputs including - environmental reports and related technical studies.
- Completing a varied range of site roles include logging, data collection, monitoring, sampling and supervising contractors, within different environment departments which may include but not limited to ecology, noise, air quality and Geographic Information Systems.
- Attendance at and participation in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions
- Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.
- Undertaking calculations and analysing the data of completed surveys.
- Technical report writing and reviewing technical documents.
- Ensuring health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset; and

On the job support and learning When an apprentice starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest, and develops a firm sustainability grounding, that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career. Apprentice Development Programme You will be expected to complete the Environmental Practitioner Degree -Environmental practitioner (Degree) (level 6) - apprenticeship training course, usually delivered via day release or in block terms. Our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role. We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions, including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution. Professional institute qualifications you may be able to work towards eg, Institute for Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA), Institute of Environmental Science (IES).
- Candidates will typically have a minimum of 120 UCAS points (or equivalent). This would typically be at least three A-levels (including a a STEM related subject) or equivalent relevant Level 3 qualification/apprenticeship.
- Minimum of 5 GCSE's (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade 'C/4' or above, including Mathematics & English
- Hardworking and enthusiastic.
- Creative, practical and adaptable.
- Able to demonstrate attention to detail
- Self-motivated and organised.
- Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
- Able to demonstrate excellent report writing skills with computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
- Able to research and interpret information from a variety of sources
- Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative team approach
- Proficient in English and with excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- Willing and able to visit other locations on company business (if necessary
- Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career within an Environmental Consultancy
- Willingness and ability to travel is essential. A full driving licence or access to reliable transport would be beneficial as the role will involve travel for site surveys and possible transportation of site equipment, You must have permanent right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
