Full Job Description
We're looking for someone to play a key role in supporting a diverse team in the scaling up of our approach to tackling physical inactivity and participation inequalities through a whole system place-based approach supporting areas of greatest need. You will be responsible for:
- Leading a geographical cluster of place partnerships (East of England) working with and through Active Partnerships into places engaging Local Authority, voluntary and third sector organisations to tackle physical inactivity and associated inequalities through our place model.
- Working collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide strategic direction and positioning of our place work in a changing landscape of devolution and local government reform.
- Ensuring tactical deployment of resources and opportunities are fully maximised in support of our ambition in "Uniting the Movement" (our 10 yr vision) by being the key link between Active Partnerships, their place partners and cross organisational teams in Sport England. Sport England recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly where we are under-represented, currently, this includes disabled people and those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Role Purpose The role is to provide strategic direction and leadership for our work to increase activity levels and tackle inequalities in specific places throughout the East of England as part of a team working in areas of greatest need across England.
- A strong working knowledge and experience of place-based whole system approaches.
- Understanding and ability to navigate a changing political and strategic landscape with experience in working with a range of public and voluntary sector organisations.
- Proven ability to create collaborative senior level relationships including between those organisations who don't normally work together to achieve change showing positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and motivate high performing teams and create a learning/improvement culture.
- Experience of successfully building internal relationships and managing teams within a matrix approach.
- Experience of working with and empowering local communities to develop services.
- A deep empathy and understanding of the issues of inequality and how they impact on peoples ability to be regularly physically active.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills showing the ability to diagnose complex problems in detail and follow through to a positive outcome.
- Excellent listening, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex messages at a senior level in an engaging style using techniques such as story telling. Desirable
- Demonstrable understanding of the relevance of a place based whole system approach to tackling physical inactivity and engaging with under-represented groups.
- Extensive experience of balancing opportunity and risk, ensuring successful outcomes.
- Excellent diplomacy skills and ability to influence policy, culture and interventions working in a complex environment.
- Knowledge and experience of behaviour change and change management theory and applied practice.
- Understanding and experience of working with data and insight to inform practice and of evaluation approaches applied to complex challenges such as tackling inactivity.
