Job Description:


The Service & Team: The role holder as part of the Engineering Workshops team will provide critical support for front line services to maintain firefighting operations and support firefighter and public safety.


The Role: The work will involve travelling to various fire stations across the county to provide maintenance and pre-servicing of large goods vehicles and firefighting equipment. You will be required to carry out inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair on a wide range of vehicles and plant including electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment. You must be able to demonstrate competent use of modern techniques and equipment as necessary, including computer based diagnostic equipment. The role holder will be required to attend and receive ongoing training to enable them to maintain a wide range of firefighting equipment. The selection process will involve a meeting with EWS management team and practical assessment.


Working Pattern: The role also attracts standby and On Call payments enhancements, additional to the basic salary. On-Call working based on current staffing figures is one week On Call every sixth week. Standby payments, plus any call out payments. Night work carries a 50% increase on the hourly rate.

Training and Support for Potential Applicants - Those potential applicants that have a light vehicle qualification, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service will provide in house training along with a Cornwall College course to achieve a certificate of competence to work on LGV's.
