Job ref: a9c04b1c480c418eb6c049589efda1d5
Full Job Description
The majority of the postholder's time will be with Mr Sean O'Leary but there will be additional opportunities to spend time with other surgeons both within and outside the unit.
The post will enable exposure to a wide variety of knee surgical procedures including a variety of arthroscopic procedures (meniscal repair/other), ACL (and other ligament) reconstruction, patella stabilisation, tibial and femoral osteotomies and unicompartmental/total joint replacement.
For the less commonly performed procedures, e.g. patellofemoral arthroplasty, trochleoplasty, meniscal allograft and chondral resurfacing techniques we have strong links with colleagues at other centres who could possibly facilitate such exposure.
Main duties of the job
Clinic
The Fellow will attend two NHS clinics a week with Mr O'Leary - a predominantly elective (degenerative) clinic and a knee injury clinic (predominantly acute ligament injuries).
Research responsibilities
There will be allocated (flexible) time for research and it would be expected that at least two projects would be completed and presented/submitted during the time with us. Mr O'Leary will supervise this.
The Fellow would be expected to engage in and coordinate any ongoing multi centre studies.
Presentations and lectures
There will be opportunities to present work and surgical techniques to both local clinicians and visiting surgeons. There may also be evening events to coordinate for local GPs and physiotherapists.
Theatre
The Fellow will be expected to have at least 4 sessions of theatre work every week. It is expected that the Fellow will move to a position of independent (supervised) lists at RBH and largely assist in the private sector.
Diversity makes us interesting... Inclusion is what will make us outstanding.
Inequality exists and the journey to eliminate it is not easy. Every step we take will be a purposeful step forward to deliver a truly inclusive culture where all our people are enabled to deliver outstanding care, where background is no barrier, and where everyone can be their authentic self and we truly represent our patient community.
