Full Job Description
DPU/SDAU embraces the opportunity for staff development, and the individual will gain knowledge and skills in basic patient care, vital signs and glucose monitoring, and other enhanced practices such as ECG and venepuncture. You will learn about clinical measurement parameters and the use of the NEWS 2 scoring system following attendance at the required Trust training programs.
The unit opens Monday to Friday between 7am and 10pm, and weekends 7am to 7:30pm (closed on Bank Holidays), and the working pattern is a mixture of shifts: 7am-1pm, 7am-7:30pm and 9:30am-10pm.
Candidates successful in securing an interview are encouraged to visit the unit (depending on availability)., HCAs work collaboratively with the nursing team, both independently and under direct supervision. They work closely with the requirements of Trust and Departmental policies and procedures to ensure that patients receive the care as required.
Every day is different! We look after a variety of specialties, from Plastic, Orthopaedic, General, Vascular, Urology, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and more.
The main objectives of this post are:
+ Assisting in the care of the surgical patient during their admission to the Unit and in the preparation for their discharge following their surgical procedures.
+ Moving and transferring patients on trolleys and beds, with the minimum discomfort to the patient.
+ Supporting the staff in providing safe, high-quality care in an appropriate environment and assisting in core positioning and comfort of the patients.
To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence., + Demonstrates awareness of own professional responsibilities and upholds the PRIDE values consistently.
+ Practices in accordance with the code of conduct for healthcare support workers clearly articulates the purpose of the code.
+ Adherence to the uniform trust policy.
+ To act as a role model to others; always projecting a professional image.
+ Understands what is meant by duty of care and the boundaries of the HCSW - Clinical care role.
+ Adherence to NNUH policies consistently.
+ To participate in tasks and carry out instructions of registered professionals relevant to area to support patient care e.g. collect blood for transfusion or purpose relevant to area, preparation of equipment for theatres, collecting medication from pharmacy or equipment from other clinical areas.
+ To participate in audit as required.
+ To develop self-awareness, building resilience, relationship building, self-care and adaptability.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS
