Full Job Description
This role is dedicated to the Operational Management of our Emergency Department (ED), offering a dynamic and varied experience filled with daily challenges. The ideal candidate will excel at prioritising tasks, working efficiently, communicating effectively with staff across all levels, and motivating the team. A hands-on approach and the ability to adapt swiftly are essential.A key focus of the role is achieving Urgent and Emergency Care performance metrics, with the successful candidate expected to drive improvements within the department. They will collaborate closely with the senior ED team, including consultants and senior nurses, to ensure the safe and effective operation of the department. Given the nature of the role, the postholder will be required to work approximately two late shifts per week to support performance.This position also involves liaising with multidisciplinary teams visiting the department to ensure adherence to pathways and compliance with Internal Professional
Standards. As part of the medical division team, the postholder will work alongside operational colleagues and represent the ED at various internal and external meetings.Comprehensive induction support will be provided, along with opportunities for professional development.
Main duties of the job
Operational Duties
To assume operational responsibility for the provision and development of the ED department, supporting the team to meet targets. Assist in the development of business and service plans. To take part in the reason to reside ward support and the hospital Tactical on call rota.
Performance Management
Managing a dedicated budget and performing financially. To take the lead and focus on meeting national targets for Urgent and Emergency care.
Personnel Management
Various duties such as staff recruitment, annual leave/absence monitoring, conducting staff appraisals and management of staff performance issues.
Governance
Working within the governance framework, reporting and investigating incidents.
Communication
Communicating with all levels of staff. Building strong relationships with both internal and external staff. Networking.
To represent the department and division at internal and external meetings.
