Gateshead Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children's Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our dynamic Qualified Social Work team. As an IRO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and their rights upheld throughout the care planning process. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable children in our community. Your key responsibilities will include:

Conducting regular reviews of care plans for children in care, ensuring that they are appropriate and effective.
Facilitating meetings with children, families, and professionals to gather insights and feedback.
Monitoring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice standards.
Providing expert advice and guidance to social workers and other stakeholders.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to reviews and meetings.

A recognized social work qualification (e.g., BA in Social Work, MSc in Social Work).
Registration with Social Work England.
Significant experience in children's social work, particularly in a reviewing or oversight capacity.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children and families.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
