Full Job Description
I am a 34-year-old man living in Ipswich who has been totally blind from birth and has a hearing impairment. I graduated from university with a degree in Politics and have finished my MA in Human Rights. I'm looking for a very outgoing Support Worker who is willing to engage in good conversations during activities or play games over coffee. I enjoy theme parks, bowling, dancing, quizzing, trips to the cinema and theatre, stand-up comedy, going to the gym, and having a chat! You should be comfortable with accompanying me to comedy shows and events which may include controversial subjects, and with describing these to me. It would also great if you enjoyed watching horror movies. I am an independent person and I make my own decisions. The main purpose of this role is to support me out and about in the community and to help me keep my independence.
It is essential to have a Driving licence and access to your own vehicle for this role. If you do not have access to your own vehicle please do not apply as you will not be considered for the role. It is also essential that you are reliable and flexible with your approach to work; days and times will be negotiated with the post holder, but role is likely to be worked afternoons and evenings., I need someone who can drive (and has their own car with the appropriate insurance) to take me to appointments, different outings and activities. I'd like you to be able to think of new activities we can do, be able to have a laugh and have similar interests to me. I want someone who can talk to me on my level and will take the time to get to know me. The successful candidate will need to be supportive emotionally and understanding and empathetic. The role would especially suit a student/graduate in social sciences or humanities.
Summary terms and conditions Hours and pay rate: 18-27 hours available per week to be worked on 2 x weekdays 2 pm to 11 pm and 1 x weekend day per week (
- generally a shorter evening shift, but may occasionally be for an entire day) These are hours currently available, you will be employed on a zero hours contract. The hourly rate is £13.75 per hour.
- Job share between 2 people can be considered. Details to be discussed at interview. Expenses: Any expenses incurred as part of the role will be reimbursed if previously agreed. Mileage will be paid at £0.40 per mile (paid with your wages), starting from your arrival at my home. Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work which would normally be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks. Background Checks: A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this position. If your application is successful, you will be required to provide details of two referees, one of which must be your current or most recent employer, or character references if you have not been employed. Trial Period: This post is subject to a probationary period of 2 months.
