Full Job Description

This is fantastic opportunity for someone who would like to work in a fast paced, varied role, where no two days are the same whilst ensuring our staff and visitors are kept safe. This role will also offer you exposure to a wide range of stakeholders enabling you to build relationships across DVLA., You will be responsible for managing a dedicated team that maintains a safe and secure environment for all staff and visitors, supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the organisation. You will oversee and implement robust security measures to protect staff, buildings, equipment, and facilities across all DVLA sites, ensuring 24/7 coverage. The work that you will do is often physically demanding, so we do require a good level of fitness from you. The security team work on a 24 hour, 365 days a year basis and you will be required to work a continuous shift pattern of 4 days on and 4 days off throughout the year including weekends, bank holidays and public holidays in all weathers. Your shift pattern will consist of 12 hours worked on a rotation basis of either 6am - 6pm or 6pm to 6am. You will be provided with a mandatory uniform and a high calibre of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which must be worn on site at all times. As a calm and focused person, you are dedicated to managing the effective delivery of an emergency response service. This is a crucial service that is capable of responding to people either in distress or at risk. There will be a development opportunity for you to acquire the following mandatory essential skills and qualifications whilst in the role:

  • First Aid
  • Security guarding
  • CCTV Operations (Public space surveillance)
  • Emergency Officer/Fire Warden
  • AED (Defibrillator)
  • Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: + Management of Control/Security room duties and Security systems which include but not limited to: CCTV, Access control, Trakka safe, GPS Radio, Body Worn Video, Cortech IDS, Honeywell fire alarm system, Voice alarm System + Respond and ensuring that the necessary action is taken by the security team in all emergency situations and reported incidents co-ordination of such action with senior management. Reporting all incidents to the HOSF/EO in writing + Regular auditing of all duty points to ensure the correct standards of vigilance, PPE and uniform compliance, efficiency and all records are correctly kept, including covering the duty point when necessary + Act as an escalation point for the security team that provide advice and guidance on Security arrangements to a wide variety of stakeholders which include but not limited to Staff, Visitor and Contractors + Incident management during silent hours to ensure that unplanned events are reported and take action to minimise/mitigate disruption to BAU functions and maintain site safety and security For further information on the role, please read the role profile. There may be some travel involved with this role, you may be required to travel to other DVLA sites (Fforestfach and Swansea Vale) to carry out your duties. A Full UK valid driving licence is required. Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to undergo a physical and medical screening if successful at the interview stage.
