About the School - Huddersfield Grammar
We are a highly successful independent school in Yorkshire, providing a future-facing curriculum for the next generation of leaders. Our academic results are exceptional, with a focus on student wellbeing and character development at the heart of all we do. Set in beautiful grounds, we provide children from ages 3-16 a caring, supportive environment in which to learn. Children are inspired from the very beginning of their educational journey in Nursery and Reception, and this continues right through the Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory and Senior School.
Huddersfield Grammar School offers academic stretch and an enviable co-curricular programme. We are renowned for our rich vein of kindness and inclusivity. We encourage our students to work hard, aspire to high academic standards and we delight in watching them become fully-rounded members of the school and community.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with maintenance, trades, facilities, or caretaking experience who enjoys a varied role where no two days are the same. From carrying out repairs and security checks to supporting school events and ensuring our grounds remain well-presented, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our school.
What you will be doing
- Opening and securing the school site and buildings.
- Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep tasks.
- Conducting regular site security, health and safety, and compliance checks.
- Setting and monitoring alarm systems and responding to security concerns.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment across the school grounds.
- Supporting school events, lettings, and activities outside core hours when required.
- Reporting maintenance issues and assisting with planned preventative maintenance.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and contractors to maintain high standards across the site.
What you'll bring
- Experience in a maintenance, caretaker, facilities, trades, or grounds maintenance role.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Practical skills in areas such as plumbing, decorating, joinery, electrical work, or general repairs.
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Take pride in maintaining safe and high-quality environments.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond positively to unexpected challenges.
- Willing to develop new skills and undertake relevant training.
While not essential, we'd love to hear from candidates with:
- IWFM Level 2, IOSH, First Aid at Work, Fire Marshal, or other Health & Safety qualifications.
- Experience working within a school, education, or similar environment.
- Facilities management or grounds maintenance experience.
