Full Job Description
This is a 12-month maternity cover post (fixed term from 16.10.2026 until 17.10.2027), offering 10 programmed activities.
The post is full time, and there will be consideration for part time,
The post holder will be contracted to provide histopathology and non- gynaecological cytology services at Milton Keynes Hospital Foundation Trust, alongside colleagues in Cellular Pathology. There will be opportunities for teaching, and this will include Cellular pathology Speciality Trainees from the Oxford rotation and Buckingham University Medical Students.
Coroner's autopsies at Milton Keynes are arranged by an external provider. There may be an opportunity to join the Coroner's autopsy rota, subject to discussion, but this is not an essential requirement.
The Cellular Pathology Laboratory is fully accredited to ISO15189 standards, and the Mortuary has an HTA Licence.
There is a departmental multi-headed microscope, which is used for Cellular Pathology Internal Quality Assurance and teaching / educational meetings., This is a fixed-term post for 1 year, for a standard 40 hours per week. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK a sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to ST3
The post holder will be contracted to provide histopathology and non- gynaecological cytology services at Milton Keynes Hospital Foundation Trust, under supervision of consultants, with some flexibility for independent reporting in line with the Curriculum in Cellular Pathology. Job Outline This post is based in the Milton Keynes University Hospital and is designed to cover a gap in the Cellular Pathology Specialist Training programme due to maternity leave. It is not a training post, but the timetable will be based on that of a Histopathology trainee as much as possible.
This will include a regional integrated LIMS (planned implementation is May 2024). PathLAKE plus project which will enable S4 network to use digital pathology in Philips platform is in progress. This has equipped all laboratories with digital scanners. The digital pathology is in the validation phase currently and is used by MKUH histopathologists for Internal Quality Assurance meetings (slide review) and referral of cases to OUH for regional level review (routinely for uropathology and hematopathology cases).
