Job Overview

Master your craft and learn to use it all over the world. As a full-time soldier, an entry-level Carpenter in the British Army will:

Plan carpentry and joinery tasks from sketches and apply them in the field

Learn to use and maintain workshop machinery

Prepare timber for use, manufacture joints, use adhesives, produce windows, door frames and fitments

Carry out general construction work including first-fix timber frames and second-fix joinery fitments

Construct scaffolding, interpret scaffold terms, erect access scaffold and install ladders

Install partitions, floors, roofing, timber-framed buildings, formwork and shoring

Study for carpentry qualifications (including Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joining (Military Engineering) and Level 2 apprenticeship)

Qualifications Required

Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months

Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject

Be able to pass a basic fitness test
