Job Overview
Master your craft and learn to use it all over the world. As a full-time soldier, an entry-level Carpenter in the British Army will:
- Plan carpentry and joinery tasks from sketches and apply them in the field
- Learn to use and maintain workshop machinery
- Prepare timber for use, manufacture joints, use adhesives, produce windows, door frames and fitments
- Carry out general construction work including first-fix timber frames and second-fix joinery fitments
- Construct scaffolding, interpret scaffold terms, erect access scaffold and install ladders
- Install partitions, floors, roofing, timber-framed buildings, formwork and shoring
- Study for carpentry qualifications (including Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joining (Military Engineering) and Level 2 apprenticeship)
Qualifications Required
- Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months
- Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject
- Be able to pass a basic fitness test

- Initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier — basic military training for Junior Soldiers and adult basic training for Regular Soldiers

- 21 weeks of carpentry training using machinery and hand tools to produce timber building materials
