Full Job Description
The post holder will need to actively participate in teaching, training, and audits as appropriate., + Manage and support medical retina follow up clinics under supervision and independently for patients with Diabetic retinopathy, Age related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and other medical retina conditions.
+ Works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Ophthalmology team able to diagnose, manage, investigate, and discharge medical retina patients within agreed protocols. The patients always remain under the care of a named consultant ophthalmic surgeon.
+ Work in collaboration with the Medical Retina Leads as well as supporting staff such as nurses and intravitreal injection coordinator/failsafe officer.
+ Demonstrates highly developed clinical nursing knowledge and skills in administering Intravitreal injections deemed competent to practice unsupervised.
+ The post holder will always have immediate access to advice from an ophthalmic specialist doctor whilst giving injections and that an ophthalmic specialist doctor is immediately available to manage any complications.
+ The post holder should be able to take up role of training junior nurse injectors including signing them off as competent at end of training period.

+ Demonstrate and maintain expertise through professional development, implementation of evidence-based practice and clinical supervision.
+ Participate in the training and development of nursing and inter-professional staff.
+ Work within the Clinical Nurse Specialist framework as set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
+ Recognises own limitations in the provision of clinical care and urgency of patients' needs.
+ Is accountable for own professional actions,
+ Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.
+ Works within Standards and guidelines of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, National and local agreed policies, protocols, and procedures.
+ In conjunction with the Matron, ensures that policies and procedures are initiated/revised, developed, implemented, and reviewed regularly.
+ To be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the Health Board
+ To participate fully in the performance and development review (appraisal) process and undertake Continuing Professional Development as required.
+ To participate in surveys and audits as necessary to enable the Trust/Department to meet its statutory requirements
+ Lead by example, providing mentorship and support demonstrate exemplary practice to all members of the nursing team
+ Promote a professional and happy environment conducive to high patient and staff morale, achieved by personal example, and direct involvement in the activities of the department environment.
