Full Job Description
- An electrical apprentice will work with a qualified engineer and will learn how to install, maintain and repair electrical services, both inside and outside buildings and structures such as hospitals, schools, factories and other industrial and commercial buildings.
- You will receive training through employment with on-the-job training (working with a qualified engineer) and incorporating attendance on a recognised programme of training at a college or other approved training centre.
- You will attend a college or training centre on day or block release. As well as this you will receive site training which will include working on different sites in different locations. You may be expected to work around the country which may include lodging away at times.
- This is a structured apprenticeship and you will be directly employed by a company. You will study towards the Level 2 and Level 3 Electrician (Installation or Maintenance) qualification, which includes knowledge tests, practical assignments and production of a portfolio of evidence.,
- A good general education, to GCSE or equivalent to include GCSE English and Mathematics, Grade C or above qualification.
- Be prepared to work in all sorts of conditions, winter and summer, including working on scaffolds and below ground in cramped awkward places.
- Should gain a variety of skills, installing and maintaining electrical systems.
- Work is carried out on building sites, in all weathers and in occupied and unoccupied premises, such as factories, hospitals, schools, shops and offices.
- All work has to be carefully planned to ensure it happens at the right time and causes the minimum disruption for the client, taking into account all health and safety requirements (a particularly important aspect of the job).
- You will need to be a practical person.
- Ability to take and obey instructions in a receptive manner.
- Ensure PPE (personal protective equipment) is worn on all sites at all times and follow site rules.
- Enjoy working with your hands.
- An efficient and accurate approach to work with an eye for detail, having a logical and methodical approach.
- Able to understand and follow specifications and diagrams.
- Interested in electrical installations.
- Dependable and willing to work as part of a team, supporting and working with others.
- Ability to tackle both the mundane and challenging and interesting tasks with equal willingness and enthusiasm.
- Proactive and can work on own initiative.
- Develop good working relationships with people.
