Full Job Description
In this role as a Deputy Engineering Manager within the Central Plant Engineering (CPE) team at the Port of Tilbury, you will provide effective managerial support to drive continuous improvement operations across the Port. With a strong focus on managing both reactive and planned maintenance activities, the role ensures that statutory compliance, operational efficiency, and maintenance excellence are consistently achieved.,
- Support the Engineering Manager in overseeing planned and reactive maintenance to ensure minimal downtime of port assets.
- Ensure compliance with statutory inspections and maintenance schedules.
- Assist in developing and optimising maintenance planning, including stores and spare parts management, to improve efficiency.
- Monitor and ensure timely and high-quality responses to faults and defects.
- Provide day-to-day managerial support to Shift Supervisors and Technicians.
- Act as a key point of contact for engineering teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment with operational goals.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the engineering team, supporting skills development and succession planning.
- Deputise for the Engineering Manager when required, ensuring continuity in leadership and decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with Health & Safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure maintenance quality and compliance with best practice.
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on professional with a strong background in engineering maintenance within industrial or port environments. You will bring a practical, team-oriented mindset with the ability to lead day-to-day activities, optimise performance, and drive long-term improvements. Adaptability, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards of safety and compliance are essential, along with the capability to build strong working relationships across teams and stakeholders., Good, relevant engineering management experience in an industrial or port environment. - Minimum HNC in Engineering.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of relevant regulations including HASAW, PUWER, LOLER, CDM, and COSHH.
- Strong awareness of health and safety legislation and practical application in high-risk industrial environments
- Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach are essential for ensuring smooth engineering operations
- Proficient in using MS Office suite, including Excel
- Full right to work in the UK
