Full Job Description
If you are an outstanding teacher of Spanish, or determined to become one, we would very much like to hear from you. We welcome applicants from both secondary school or sixth form. You will join a superb college staff, strongly committed to reflecting on its teaching techniques and sharing excellent resources. Working within the English and Languages team, alongside an experienced, part-time Spanish speaking assistant, you will be responsible for the AQA A-level Spanish course. This typically involves teaching four Spanish classes: two in each year group. The languages team has 7 staff members and offers courses in French, German and Spanish at A-level, as well as Japanese, Mandarin and Latin at lower levels. The team is known for its friendly, collaborative and supportive approach. You will have a degree or equivalent in Spanish and must have a commitment to active and innovative teaching and learning, both inside and outside the classroom. You will also have the desire to be part of a successful teaching team and a willingness to contribute to new initiatives within the department. The role is available to start from August 2025, but we can adjust the start date up until January 2026, if required. Full or part-time (0.813-1.0 contract). The College OFSTED has judged Barton Peveril to be Outstanding across all four key judgements: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. You will be joining a college that achieves excellent student outcomes and is focused on continually exploring and reviewing the most effective teaching and learning strategies. We enjoy a long established reputation for looking after our students and taking an interest in young people as we prepare them for a successful future through a broad education. We are committed to investing in the continuous professional development and training of our staff, and to their wellbeing. We know that, to a very large extent, it is because of the remarkable talent and dedication of our staff, that Barton Peveril is now one of the largest and most successful sixth form colleges in the country. Why work at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College? Students and staff praise the friendly, lively and modern community in which we work. We also offer a range of excellent staff benefits, including:
- Pension schemes for both teachers and support staff
- Commitment to staff health and wellbeing
- Wide range of learning and development opportunities for staff
- Free use of the on-site gym
- Free on-site/off-site parking and bike sheds For additional information and to apply, please visit our website via the Apply button. Closing date: Midday on Wednesday 11th June 2025. Please submit your application as soon as possible as we may invite candidates to interview before the closing date. Barton Peveril College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our commitment is underpinned by robust processes and procedures that seek to maximise opportunity, minimise risk and continuously promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our workforce. All successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Barton Peveril College is fully committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The College actively seeks to monitor, promote and encourage the active participation of all individuals and groups. It fully meets its commitments to equality and diversity legislation and strives to uphold the spirit as well as the letter of the law, celebrating the enrichment brought to the workforce and student population by differences in individuals and groups.
