Full Job Description

Teacher of English with responsibility for reading, We are ambitious to 'be the best we can be' for the children who attend our school. Our core values- respectful, responsible, resilient- capture our approach and we are looking for an English teacher to join us who can model our values and challenge us all to be even better.

We are proud to have been appointed the first lead secondary school in the country for developing the CUSP curriculum (Curriculum Unity Schools Partnership) at secondary level. The CUSP curriculum is well established in the UK and internationally. CUSP is guided by evidence-led curriculum structures, such as retrieval, spaced retrieval practice and interleaving. It is underpinned by explicit vocabulary instruction and research-focused pedagogy. Combining these has led to exceptional outcomes for young people, as a result of coherent curriculum design and instructional teaching. We are looking for an inspirational colleague to lead reading at our school. Reading is integral to all we do at Newmarket Academy and we are looking for a leader to create an exceptional offer to our students. The exciting journey has already begun and we are looking for a leader to drive this area of our school to excellence. The successful candidate will be highly effective English teacher, collaborative and inspirational, committed to raising standards in English and reading across the school. Newmarket Academy is part of Unity Schools Partnership, a forward-thinking academy trust of 39 schools. At Unity, we value our people, and we have developed a strong culture of collaboration and best practice. You will be part of our trust's senior leaders' network and will have development opportunities at regular intervals including our leadership events and other trust opportunities. Unity Schools Partnership celebrates both professional development and career progression. The Teaching school which is part of Unity will support the successful candidate in this post and their future career. What we want:

  • An engaging, passionate and hard-working risk taker who can motivate, inspire and challenge both students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to ensuring all students make exceptional progress.
  • In return we will offer:
  • Support any CPD required to be able to fulfil the role
  • Newly refurbished learning spaces with state of the art interactive white boards and sound systems.
  • A supportive and friendly working environment with well established "well-being" programmes.
  • An excellent programme of induction into the Academy with supportive and dynamic staff.
  • 2-week October half term
  • Well-being day each Academic year., Please note: we may hold interviews as and when applications are received and we reserve the right to offer to a candidate prior to the closing date. We only accept applications submitted online via our careers website and which are completed before the closing deadline. With this in mind, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible and advise you check the job information as per the listing on our careers site.
  • In line with safer recruitment, we are unable to accept CVs. Failure to complete an application form satisfactorily may result in not being shortlisted for the post. Our comprehensive recruitment and selection processes aim to discourage and screen out unsuitable applicants. Successful candidates are subject to rigorous pre-employment checks. We are equally committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity. We aim for our workforce to be representative of society and that each employee feels respected and able to give their best. We are committed to providing equality and fairness in our recruitment and employment practices and not to discriminate on any grounds. We oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination. If you'd prefer to work part-time or as a job-share, we'll facilitate this wherever we can - whether to help you meet other commitments or to help you strike a great work-life balance.
