Full Job Description
You will help to develop and promote technical conservation guidance by commissioning and managing research projects, carrying out and organising specialist training as well as producing and disseminating technical guidance for a range of audiences. Please note this role:
- will involve travel to local offices and locations throughout England, often to sites that are inaccessible by public transport, so a current UK driving licence is highly desirable.
- due to its national remit, will require attendance at meetings and site visits, and will often involve overnight stays, sometimes of more than one consecutive night.
- will also involve visiting sites in exposed locations and where climbing scaffolding and negotiating uneven terrain and confined spaces (such as attics) will be necessary.
Must be a chartered member of a relevant professional institute or eligible to apply and prepared to qualify within one year. Relevant qualifications: Landscape Institute: CMLI, FLI; Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management: MCIEEM, CEcol, CEnv, FCIEEM; Chartered Institute of Horticulture: CHort.

What you will be doing The Technical Conservation Team in the National Specialist Services Department specialises in the care, repair and conservation of buildings, structures and landscapes. We set standards and provide specialist technical services and strategic leadership on all aspects of the care, repair, maintenance and adaptation of the historic built environment. We do this by developing and promoting evidence-based technical policy, standards and best practice and by providing specialist advice within Historic England and to the wider sector. As a member of the Building Conservation and Designed Landscape Team, you will provide specialist technical advice and guidance on the conservation of historic designed landscapes and the settings of historic buildings and monuments to a range of audiences (including Historic England staff, other sector professionals and non-professionals) using a variety of media. Working with internal and external stakeholders and partners, you will be playing an important role in helping to deliver Historic England's response to the climate and biodiversity crisis, providing advice and guidance on landscape management and wildlife in the historic environment, including nature-based solutions as climate change adaptation measures and nature recovery., We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion.
