Full Job Description
Oxford High School is looking for a dedicated and proactive Gardener / Caretaker to join our Premises team on a permanent basis. This is a key role within the team, responsible for maintaining the school's grounds, landscaped areas, and gardens to an exceptional standard. Working across three sites, you will be key to ensuring that the school presents a welcoming, well-maintained, and inspiring environment throughout the year. To achieve this, you will design and implement planting schemes that showcases the school's grounds throughout the seasons. In addition to your gardening duties, you may be required to undertake a variety of basic property maintenance tasks to support the overall operation of the school. You will also help preserve site security, by securing the premises after school hours. This is a full-time role for 36 hours per week, working all year round across five days. Although this role will usually encompass a day shift, there will be a requirement to work early, late and weekend shifts. Hours will vary due to lettings and events and may include week and weekend days. You will have sound knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance, along with an understanding of security procedures. While good maintenance skills and experience of routine property maintenance is desirable, they are not essential. You will demonstrate the ability to work effectively on your own initiative as well as in collaboration with other teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to relate to pupils, parents, colleagues, and external agencies. About Oxford High School: Since its foundation over 140 years ago in the heart of Oxford's historic city centre, Oxford High School has been innovative and pioneering in its approach to girls' education. As well as our commitment to girls' education, we are committed to investing in our staff's personal development through training and learning initiatives and via the GDST network. Benefits: As part of the Girls' Day School Trust, the leading and largest group of independent girls' schools in the UK, we offer a variety of benefits, which include:
- Competitive salaries and pay progression
- Access to extensive professional development opportunities
- Training grants for qualifications
- Generous pension schemes
- Free life assurance benefit
- Free school lunches
- A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools
- Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans
- A Cycle to Work scheme
- Competitive terms and conditions of employment Further details of the position and an application form are available by clicking the apply button. The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 15th June 2025. Interviews will be held throughout June 2025. We reserve the right to end the advert early if a suitable candidate is found or if we receive a sufficient number of applications. An early application is therefore strongly advised. Oxford High School and the GDST are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
