Full Job Description

The role involves maintaining detailed and up-to-date profiles of children with special educational needs, gathering and recording relevant background information, and providing observational support across the setting. A key focus is guiding Key Workers to implement effective strategies that meet individual children's needs, while working closely with families to ensure ongoing communication and collaborative support. The SENCo will also take the lead in arranging and reviewing tailored provision for children with complex needs, including submitting applications to the Early Years Inclusion Panel.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering partnerships with external agencies, responding to legislative and local authority changes, and writing detailed educational reports for both professionals and parents. They will facilitate staff development by organising relevant INSET training and will contribute to a wider network of professionals by attending local SENCo meetings. This is a highly rewarding leadership role within the early years setting, ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, deep empathy, and a passion for enhancing learning opportunities for every child.

We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Early Years Practitioner with an NVQ Level 3 qualification in childcare and/or education. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in supporting children under five and their families, with a strong emphasis on inclusive practice for children with special needs. A confident team player, you will be able to plan and deliver a play-based curriculum that fosters development and learning, while building collaborative partnerships with parents, carers, and other professionals. This role also involves supervision of students, volunteers, and staff, requiring excellent communication skills and proficiency in Office applications and web-based tools.

Applicants must demonstrate solid knowledge of child development, curriculum planning, and safeguarding procedures. Familiarity with key policies and frameworks-such as Birth to 3 Matters, Early Years Foundation Stage, OfSTED, Every Child Matters, and the Childcare Act 2006-is essential. We're looking for someone committed to best practices and equality, who promotes positive outcomes for all children and thrives on parental and community engagement. If you're passionate about nurturing young minds and creating inclusive, supportive environments, we'd love to hear from you.

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work - the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We'll be celebrating all this and more as the "rebel borough" when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey's people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement up to 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts. Please note: we reserve the right to end this advert before the noted deadline if we receive sufficient applications. If you wish to apply for this role please ensure that you do so as soon as possible. Additionally, we are aware that automated emails may end be diverted through to junk email folders. Please
