Full Job Description
We're looking for a qualified Legal Adviser with specialist civil litigation knowledge, to join a friendly and collaborative legal team in Companies House. You'd be working in a small team which will include 2 prosecutors, that concentrates on litigation work as well as some advisory work. The successful candidate will report to the head of the Compliance and Enforcement service. The work is varied and interesting, and can be complex, novel and fast paced. Our lawyers provide high quality advice to colleagues in operational, policy, and digital teams on the interpretation and application of legislation. If a serious or complex case is identified then our lawyers deal with it and as appropriate, engage the litigation group in the Government Legal Department. The team also works closely with policy colleagues to shape and implement central government legislative proposals that impact Companies House. Our lawyers also provide legal awareness and training sessions for non-legal colleagues and are encouraged to participate in Companies House's wider corporate activities., As one of our legal advisers you will: + Provide high quality and accurate advice on civil litigation process and merits of cases and appeals. + Give high quality, accurate and timely legal advice and guidance on a range of policy, legislative and operational matters to colleagues across Companies House. + Advise policy colleagues on proposed changes to services or policies, supporting the analysis of the potential impacts on Companies House, its processes and systems as well as providing legal support to the subsequent implementation of any change. + Draft documents (e.g. Claim forms, defences ). + Provide input to help shape legislation that affects the operations of Companies House, working with colleagues across government. + Advise on public law challenges arising from the performance of the functions carried out at Companies House, liaising with the Government Legal Department and Counsel as appropriate.
- Support Companies House's transformation agenda. + Provide training and support to colleagues on relevant legal issues. + Work collaboratively by building effective relationships and engaging with colleagues in Companies House and, as appropriate, officials and lawyers across government. + Delegate to and support, as appropriate, the Legal Business & Change Manager and the Legal Secretary. Line management responsibilities sit with the legal advisers, rotating periodically. + Take an active wider corporate role in Companies House's Leadership Team. The work is varied, and you will be expected to be flexible as to the work and responsibilities you undertake from time to time. About the team We provide a supportive and collaborative environment for our lawyers to develop their legal and non-legal skills. Whilst the legal work is varied and interesting, our legal advisers are also encouraged to participate in the various corporate opportunities that arise across the organisation. Where you will be working You will be aligned to our Cardiff office, where you will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you, however you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs. Working Hours This is a full time position of 37 hours per week.
