Full Job Description

Barts Heart Centre was formed from the merger of the cardiac units previously based at The London Chest Hospital, St. Bartholomew's Hospital, and The Heart Hospital. It serves as the region's heart attack centre and provides a range of services including invasive and interventional cardiology, specialist cardiac imaging, electrophysiology services such as device implants and ablation therapy for arrhythmia, grown-up congenital heart disease, heart muscle disease, infective endocarditis, advanced heart failure, and cardio-oncology. These posts offer exposure to a broad spectrum of cardiology and medical conditions. The Arrhythmia Services Department is one of the largest globally, with the highest volume of electrophysiology (EP) and device cases in the UK and is a leader in several sub-speciality areas.Barts Heart Centre is collaborating with external organisations, including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and National Cardiac Societies, to support joint posts. We invite
candidates who have secured funding from external institutions (such as the ESC or their respective National Cardiac Societies) and are willing to match funding up to 80% of a full-time equivalent position. Funding details will be negotiated directly with the external sponsor to tailor the post to individual needs., To support cardiac EP and device services, this role includes supervising and performing procedures in the catheter lab, participating in cardiac device clinics and outpatient clinics, reporting studies on patients, maintaining patient safety at all times, and assisting in the smooth operation of the department

To provide, as part of the rota for cardiac electrophysiology and specialised services, day-to-day care for inpatients requiring these services

Support the development of a sub-specialist interest within EP and cardiac devices

There is a partial shift non-resident on-call arrangement for the above inpatient services at Barts Heart Centre. This involves out-of-hours work and weekends. The rota complies with the European Working Time Directive. Participation in the on-call duties depends on the candidate's experience and the overall needs of the cardiology services at Barts Heart Centre
