Treasurer

As a full member of the Board of Trustees, the incumbent is jointly responsible for overall governance and strategic oversight. As the Treasurer, the role holder is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the, ensuring that appropriate financial controls, reporting and governance arrangements are in place and that the charity remains financially sustainable. The Treasurer works closely with a Volunteer Bookkeeper and Gift Aid Administrator to ensure accurate financial records are maintained and statutory obligations are met.

Headquartered in Canada since 1963, Operation Eyesight Universal (OEU) works to prevent blindness and restore sight globally.

90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable, often at remarkably low cost. OEU tackles this issue head-on. As of December 31, 2025, OEU has declared 2,021 villages in Africa and South Asia as Avoidable-Blindness-Free, through 204 completed community eye health care projects! Nearly 10 million people have been provided access to local eye care through local vision centres, door-to-door screening and referral systems!

OEU has a UK entity that is making great strides in raising awareness about the extraordinary impact of our activities, and is keen to raise new funds for our international projects. Our latest project will build a long-lasting, sustainable community eye care system for 50,000 people in Barddhaman, West Bengal, India!
