Full Job Description

At our pre-clinical development site in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we are currently recruiting for a Trainee Scientist to join our Bacteriology lab in the Genetic Toxicology department. Our graduate opportunities in Genetic Toxicology offer you the chance to develop your existing lab skills, cross train in different laboratories and gain a wide variety of skills, plus you can experience world renowned research techniques. A super way to kick off your career in Genetic Toxicology! The main responsibilities will include:

  • Responsibility to maintain lab cleanliness, supplies and tidiness (cleaning, calibrations, reagent prep and disposal (expired solutions), waste disposal etc.)
  • Assists to maintain laboratory equipment, equipment records within laboratory areas
  • Assists in the production of laboratory work sheets for standard assays
  • Assists in the preparation and performance of standard assay(s) in base lab area
  • Learns to prepare solutions of all materials required to perform the assays (where applicable)
  • Performs maintenance of laboratory equipment, equipment records
  • Assists with the preparation and performance of non-standard assay(s) in base lab area
  • Learns to monitor Gene Tox site specific temperature monitoring systems for the equipment using those systems in the base lab area
  • Learns to respond to alarm events for any equipment monitored by Gene Tox site specific temperature monitoring systems in the base lab area
  • Document Quality Events (deviations) using the Veeva QMS system

    Educated to BSc level in a relevant life science subject, Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Practice
  • Previous experience of pipetting and aseptic techniques preferred
  • Methodical with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Familiarity with standard spreadsheet and word-processing software applications
  • Communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
