Traffic Management Technicians

We're looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Traffic Management Service as Senior Traffic Management Technicians. These are rewarding and varied roles, offering the opportunity to work on projects that improve road safety, support sustainable travel, manage traffic and parking, and help keep people moving safely across Westmorland and Furness.

Working as part of a supportive team, you'll play a key role in developing and delivering schemes from concept through to implementation, collaborating with colleagues, elected members, stakeholders and local communities to develop practical solutions that make a lasting impact.

Whether your interest lies in road safety, engineering, or project delivery, you'll have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise while helping to shape and improve the local highway network.

What you'll be doing

Designing, developing and delivering traffic management, parking and road safety schemes.

Preparing and processing Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and associated statutory procedures.

Undertaking site investigations, surveys and technical assessments.

Analysing traffic, parking and collision data to support scheme development and decision-making.

Preparing technical reports, drawings, works packages and other supporting documentation.

Providing technical advice and guidance on traffic management, road safety and highway standards.

Liaising with contractors, stakeholders, elected members and members of the public.

Supporting the planning, delivery and monitoring of projects to achieve agreed objectives and timescales.

The Opportunities

Road Safety & Projects Team

Based in Penrith, Kendal or Barrow, this role supports the delivery of countywide initiatives including the Council's 20mph programme, road safety education initiatives, casualty reduction projects and other strategic traffic management schemes.
