Full Job Description
The iconic Sue Townsend Theatre, a vibrant commercial performance venue and the creative home of Leicester College's Performing Arts, Music and Sound Technology Departments are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Events Programming Manager (Theatre or Venue Events Manager). With a passion for Performing Arts, Theatre, Music and creativity , you will oversee the operational management of the theatre whilst actively promoting the venue as a thriving performance space.
This role combines commercial focus, operational delivery and team leadership to ensure a high quality experience for all visitors, clients and hires. You will oversee the full hire journey from enquiry to delivery, manage scheduling and play a key role in supporting and coordinating management, front of house and technical staffing for events.
What You'll Do
Oversee day-to-day theatre operations, ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety and licensing.
Act as Duty Manager to lead deputy manager, front-of-house, and bar teams
Manage staff rotas to ensure adequate staffing of venue for events and hires .
Coordinate internal events and support CAPA performance programmes.
Manage external venue hires, contracts, and payments.
Oversee bar stock, cash handling, and reconciliation.
Promote equality, safeguarding, and high-quality customer service
Actively promote the venues booked events and hires on digital marketing platforms
Degree or Level 5 qualification preferably in a related field.
Experience in theatre or venue management.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessments.
Experience training staff and managing cash/box office systems.
Excellent communication, organisation, and people-management skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
Demonstrate people management skills sufficient to manage/lead a team.
Working hours will vary and will include daytime, evening and weekend shifts, depending on the venue's programme. Flexibility is essential for this role to ensure the smooth delivery of events and performances. Working additional hours may be required to ensure the consistency of hires. You'll be part of a creative, supportive, and ambitious department where your ideas and expertise will help shape the future of our performance spaces.
