When you join us as a 1:1 Teacher within the Alternative Tuition Service (ATS), you'll be encouraged to share your fresh thinking and empowered to explore new ideas that shape both your career and the educational experiences of children and young people in Suffolk.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful and vibrant team of teachers working across the county to provide stimulating and creative learning, helping pupils make progress towards positive and successful outcomes.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Teacher in the Alternative Tuition Service, you will:
- work with pupils 1-to-1 or in groups, sometimes in their homes, to plan and deliver blended learning via Microsoft Teams.
- work with a team of specialist teachers who have the knowledge and significant experience in working with a range of pupils with special educational and emotional needs.
- model positive attitudes and relationships to young people and establish a caring, safe and stimulating environment for teaching and learning.
- establish and maintain good working relationships with other professionals within your work and with parents/carers and Local Authority staff.
- respond to the issues that may be affecting the young people's ability to access the curriculum and support them appropriately.
This role is mainly based in the community; however, you may also have the opportunity to work from home occasionally and you will have an office base. If you wish to discuss how that might impact your working arrangements, please contact the recruiting manager listed below., Our service works with vulnerable children and young people who are medically unable to attend school, have been permanently excluded, or are awaiting a specialist placement.
You will be joining a dynamic and committed team of inspirational staff who provide a high-quality educational offer to pupils with a wide range of needs, often complex. You will need to be flexible, creative and resilient, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the wider team.
The Alternative Tuition Service is a supportive and highly collaborative team of experienced teachers who place pupil needs and voices at the heart of everything they do, ensuring each child receives an inclusive and personalised learning experience.
This role is primarily community-based, although there may be opportunities to work from home on occasion, and you will have access to an office base. If you would like to discuss how this may impact your working arrangements, please contact the recruiting manager listed below.

- You should use the Supporting Statement template (Word).
- Please use Arial font size 11 and keep your statement to a maximum of two sides of A4.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- A strong commitment to social inclusion and equality of opportunity.
- The ability to inspire pupils to achieve their full potential.
- To be resilient, self-motivated, creative and flexible in your approach.
- Experience as a competent teacher working with vulnerable pupils.
- Knowledge and experience of supporting pupils with a range of special educational and emotional needs.
- Experience of managing potentially challenging behaviour.
- Experience of working in a specialist setting is desirable, but not essential.
Salary: MPR (Mid Pay Range) / UPR (Upper Pay Range), plus SEN allowance, Teachers Pay and Conditions for England, (pro rata)
- Hours: 22.2 hours per week, flexible working options available
- Contract: Fixed Term Contract or Secondment, to cover an absent post holder due to adoption/parental leave, for up to 1 year.
