Full Job Description
- The Specialist OCEAN Midwife for Trauma, Loss & Tokophobia will have a key organisational role in developing and maintaining high standards of care for women with loss, tokophobia and birth trauma during pregnancy and the immediate postnatal period.
- Main responsibilities include providing support and midwifery care for women with loss, tokophobia and birth trauma during pregnancy and the postnatal period in conjunction with the OCEAN Maternal Mental Health Service, perinatal mental health team, and neighbouring Mother and Baby Unit.
- You will provide a link between the maternity service and other services involved in the mental health care of perinatal women, including the local primary care therapy service (IAPT) and maternal mental health service. You will ensure that relevant pathways, policies and processes to identify women at risk of or with existing loss, tokophobia and birth trauma are developed, implemented and audited. This will involve working with a range of relevant professionals, services and agencies, including commissioners and the public health team.
- Youwill also be responsible for group work, including working with bereavement teams and facilitating the Birth Reframing Clinic which supports women and their partners around experiences of traumatic birth.
- The post holder will be based both within the maternity service, the OCEAN service, and the perinatal mental health service., Be a key part of the OCEAN Maternal Mental Health Service, meeting the needs of service users experience loss or trauma arising directly from the maternity experience.
- Ensure that robust and effective communication systems exist which underpin effective service provision, both within the midwifery service and with all stakeholders
- Provide a link between midwives, OCEAN team, perinatal mental health team, general practitioners, health visitors, obstetricians and other agencies in relation to women's care.
- Ensure midwives are aware of care pathways for women with loss, tokophobia and birth trauma and deliver their contribution to these, including the provision of information and support, and the prediction and detection of concerns
- Refer users to other health care professionals as required and when the needs of the woman are beyond the post holder's scope of practice.
