Full Job Description

We require strong team players with a positive attitude to working in a flexible manner, committed to supporting the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients by participating in a 24-hour Agenda for Change shift system. The successful candidates will be primarily based at one of the following pathology partnership sites but may be expected to cover and support other ESEL sites depending on service demand. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking and innovative organisation to deliver a high quality service for one of the largest networked laboratories within the NHS. The successful candidate MUST be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist AND have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio., To carry out / supervise technical and scientific work in a section of the laboratory under thedirection of Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist. Flexible hours including weekend andbank holiday working will be required within the minimum 37.5 hours per week in accordancewith Agenda for Change (AfC) Terms and Conditions.To practice as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist providing a patient focused, costeffective and efficient service.The post holder will undertake technical and scientific work under the direction of appointedline manager and training leads.The post holder must be able to demonstrate proficiency and competence in designatedwork area to an agreed expertise level.The post holder must be conversant with the technologies and methodologies specific to thecore and specialist sections.The post holder is required to rotate through the various sections of the laboratory and workat different laboratories networked within ESEL Pathology Partnership.The post holder must participate in the either the AfC hybrid (day & night)

The NHS East andSouth EastLondon Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health. The Pathology Partnership was formed in May 2021.Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme toestablisha single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS). The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership. The Partnership has three operational divisions:

  • Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry
  • Microbiology and Virology
  • Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics
  • The 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.
