Full Job Description
Support residents to live independently in safe, welcoming homes - making every day easier, safer and more connected.
Support residents to live independently in safe, welcoming homes - making every day easier, safer and more connected.
As a Sheltered Housing Officer, you'll be a trusted presence in our housing schemes - supporting residents to live independently, feel safe and stay connected to their community. It's a role where care, confidence and communication really matter - and where your everyday actions can make a lasting difference.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough for 5 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:
As a Sheltered Housing Officer, you'll be the friendly, familiar face that residents know and trust. Based in one of our sheltered housing schemes, you'll help older or more vulnerable residents feel safe, supported and part of the community - all while making sure the building is well-maintained and secure.
You'll carry out regular checks of the communal areas and help residents report any issues within their homes. You'll also help residents settle in, access support, and navigate services in the community. Whether you're signposting help, solving everyday challenges or supporting someone with a tenancy issue, you'll use your initiative to respond with care, professionalism and calm. You'll work closely with carers, contractors and council teams, and you'll play a vital role in making sure the scheme is clean, secure and welcoming.
You'll often be working alone, so you'll need to be confident in using your judgement and knowing when to escalate things. You'll manage access to the building, keep accurate records, and monitor performance against housing management standards. Every day brings something new, and your efforts will help shape a safe, supportive environment where people feel at home., We are a Disability Confident Employer - committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.
We are committed to fair, transparent, and consistent pay practices. New hires will start at the minimum of the advertised salary range.
Employees receive annual salary increases until they reach the top of the pay scale. In addition, employees will receive any agreed cost of living pay rises.
You need to sign in or create an account to save a job.
You'll have a calm and diplomatic approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to manage situations independently. Experience working in a customer-focused environment is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people.
You'll need to be organised, reliable and comfortable juggling different tasks. You'll also be confident using computer systems and maintaining accurate digital records. Most importantly, you'll have a warm, approachable personality, with the sensitivity and resilience to support residents from a range of backgrounds. We're looking for someone who shares our values, understands the importance of equality and inclusion, and wants to make a positive difference every day.
At RBKC, we're all in - investing in our people, our communities and our future.
This is a community-based role where no two days are the same - but you'll never be on your own. You'll be part of a small, friendly and supportive team that works across departments to make sure residents have what they need to thrive.
You'll be supported with training and development opportunities to grow your skills and build confidence in your role. There's space to share your ideas and improve how we work - and a shared commitment to making a real difference., Kensington and Chelsea is home to diverse communities, thriving businesses and unique local places. Everything we do is focused on supporting our residents, strengthening our approach and creating a fairer borough.
As a competent and caring Council, we take pride in our work every day, ensuring our services are delivered with care and competence. We listen to our residents, act with integrity and work together to build a borough that is greener, safer and fairer for all.
You'll be part of that mission - getting stuck in to solve problems, support residents and help shape services that make a difference. It can be challenging, but every bit of effort pays off in the smiles, trust and independence of the people you work with.
