The Role
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn't stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
Uncover the Past, Inspire the Future: Schools Officer at Hackney Museum
Are you a creative communicator with a passion for community history? Do you believe children should see their communities reflected in the museums they visit?
Hackney Museum is looking for a dynamic Schools Officer to bring the borough's global histories to life for the next generation. As an asset for local communities, Hackney Museum celebrates the diverse roots of everyone who lives in Hackney. As a community history museum our collections date from prehistory to the present day and represent the everyday lives of the borough's people, many of whom have migrated from all over the world. If you are ready to use our collections to empower young voices and create inclusive learning experiences, we want to hear from you.
You will join our small team at an exciting time as we deliver our £2.9m redevelopment project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will redesign the permanent galleries and influence the new schools programme; due to open in 2027.
Based at Hackney Museum, in Hackney Central, East London. You will be working closely with the Museum Learning Producer, Museum Officer, Project Curator and education stakeholders to redesign the schools programme and deliver these sessions to visiting schools.
As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation.
If you want to work in a place where you can represent our values so we achieve the best for our residents, please click on the apply button below.
