Full Job Description

As a Public Protection Officer with the Environmental Protection Team, you will be instrumental in achieving both our proactive and reactive work programmes, including statutory nuisance investigations (noise, smoke, dust and light issues), filthy and verminous premises, public health funerals and planning and licensing consultations. The post-holder may also get involved in local air quality management, contaminated land and private water supplies. You will work alongside a team of experienced officers who are knowledgeable, dedicated, hardworking and ever keen to protect the public whilst exploring innovative ways of providing a sustainable regulatory service. There is an expectation for officers to take enforcement action in order to deliver positive outcomes when required.

Our ideal candidate will either have a degree (or be working towards a relevant qualification in the field of environmental health) or have a strong understanding of the role and previous experience of working in environmental protection or a related field. To succeed in this role, you will have an approachable manner, excellent communication and influencing skills along with the ability to organise and independently prioritise your workload. A driving licence is essential as the role involves traveling to and inspecting sites across the district.
