Applications are invited for a position of postdoctoral scientist to be spent at the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the Royal Veterinary College.

The focus of the project, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, is to test novel polymer-coated adeno-associated viral vectors for gene replacement therapy in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Given the nature of the project, we are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with excellent molecular biology skills and strong interest in neuromuscular conditions.

Expertise in western blotting, immunocytochemistry, quantitative PCR, and aseptic cell culture are essential. Previous experience in Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector production and use in vitro and in vivo is essential. In vivo expertise is desirable. Training will be provided for any unfamiliar techniques. You are expected to be a good communicator, able to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the laboratory.

Candidates invited to the interview will be asked to prepare a short (10 minutes) presentation of their recent research.

The position is funded for 14 months.

We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:

  • Competitive and attractive pension package

  • Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and concessionary days) pro-rata

  • On site café and restaurant

  • Free membership to the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site

  • Cycle to work scheme

  • A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave
