Full Job Description
As part of this work, we're now looking for a Patrons Manager to join us at the Science Museum on a full-time, permanent basis, helping to grow and steward our valued community of Science Museum Patrons whose unrestricted support helps fund our exhibitions, galleries, outreach and education programmes. About the Role Sitting within the Philanthropy team, this role will lead on the development, planning and delivery of the Science Museum's Patrons Programme, supporting a community of individual supporters giving between £1,000 and £10,000+ annually. This is a relationship-focused role with responsibility for both stewardship and acquisition. You'll help ensure our existing Patrons feel welcomed, valued and closely connected to the work of the museum, delivering a high-quality experience through engaging communications, tailored interactions and a programme of special events. Alongside stewarding existing supporters, you'll also play an important role in identifying and recruiting new Patrons, helping to grow the programme in line with ambitious fundraising goals. Working closely with colleagues across the wider Fundraising & Partnerships team, you'll help build a strong pipeline of prospective supporters and create meaningful opportunities for engagement. You'll manage relationships with your own portfolio of Patrons, handling day-to-day communications, supporting renewals and uplift conversations, and helping identify opportunities for deeper long-term support where appropriate. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of an established and growing programme, helping shape its future direction within a world-renowned cultural organisation committed to inspiring futures through science and innovation. Hybrid working is available in this role in line with the current hybrid working policy at SMG, with a minimum of 40% of working hours based onsite at the Science Museum in London.
You'll bring experience in building and managing strong relationships, whether from a fundraising, membership, hospitality, client management, recruitment, sales or similar people-focused background. You'll be confident communicating the Science Museum Group's impact with a wide range of individuals and comfortable having conversations around financial support, renewals and fundraising targets. Warm, organised and proactive, you'll enjoy creating positive experiences for supporters and building long-term relationships. You'll have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, alongside the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain high levels of attention to detail. Experience working with CRM or database systems would also be beneficial. You'll be collaborative and solutions-focused, able to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation while maintaining a supporter-centred approach. Most importantly, you'll bring enthusiasm, emotional intelligence and a genuine commitment to helping create an open, inclusive and inspiring organisation for colleagues, supporters and audiences alike.
Working with a world-leading museum group that offers access to truly unique environments and collections, you'll benefit from the perks listed below, as well as full support for life events such as parental and adoption leave, sickness, and career breaks.
- Meaningful work. We're a mission-led organisation where the work you do supports us in Inspiring Futures.
- Career growth. We offer enhanced support with personal and professional development.
- Work/life balance. We offer 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, along with flexible policies which support you and your home life.
- Wellbeing. All our colleagues can access an employee assistance programme and other wellbeing support.
- Colleague networks. Our colleague-led networks are an informal forum for colleagues to come together to discuss topics of shared interest and lived experience. They create a space for people to exchange ideas, discuss best practice, socialise and build a sense of community.
- Enhanced contributory pension. To support you in saving for the future.
- Interest-free loans. When you need a little extra cash for life events or home improvements.
- Great discounts. Free entry to exhibitions, discounts in our shops, cafes, and access to other museums in the NMDC network. Open for All is one of the Science Museum Group's five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
