Full Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be involved in a variety of specialist tasks. This could include:

  • Delivering and managing technical studies/projects.
  • Designing of mechanical processes, from strategic and conceptual phases to detailed design and construction & commissioning phase support. Typical deliverables that will be issued: technical note, substantiation notes, mechanical flow diagrams and flow-sheets, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layout drawings, hazards and malfunctions management, technical specification documentation review from supply chain.
  • Technical studies related to mechanical handling for both handling operations and heavy mechanical transfer systems, powder mechanical processes (transport, milling, and compaction) in high active environment and gloveboxes, compaction and mechanical dismantling technologies.
  • Technical networking with experts.
  • Close working relationships with other sites and client sites may be required, which necessitates regular travel to those sites (dependent upon project).
  • Our Client operates across the entire "nuclear lifecycle"-essentially everything from the production of fuel to the cleaning up of old sites:
  • Decommissioning & Waste Management: They are a major partner for Sellafield Ltd, helping manage the transition of the site from reprocessing fuel to cleaning up and dismantling old facilities.
  • Specialist Engineering: They provide technical services in nuclear safety, shielding, dose assessment, and "human factors" (how people interact with nuclear systems).
  • Fuel Cycle Services: They supply enriched uranium to UK power stations like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell B and handle the logistics of transporting nuclear materials.
  • Plutonium Management: They support the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in technical studies regarding the UK's plutonium stockpile.

    Have a BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years relevant experience as a Process Engineer on a Nuclear site or a highly regulated site.
  • Associate member or the IChemE working towards Chartership.
  • Experienced in supporting the production & development of process discipline documents and demonstrating the capability to work within a team.
  • Experienced in supporting process engineering coordination tasks as part of a team, demonstrating the capability to work within a team.
  • Additional The successful candidate must, by the start of employment, have permission to work in the UK, and be willing to undergo a security vetting process. Offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted. Travel to other offices and client sites may be necessary. You should be willing to work flexibly to accommodate project and client requirements.
