Full Job Description
Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week An exciting opportunity to be part of a national enforcement agency has arisen within Birmingham City Councils Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT). As part of the councils Trading Standards Department, the IMLT investigates unlicensed money lenders (Loan Sharks). Administered in Birmingham, the team operates on an agile and flexible basis across the UK and is funded by Central Government. The team work closely with other Local Authorities, the Police, and other agencies. The IMLT have two enforcement teams and an intelligence department made up of specialist investigators. The post of Investigator will sit within one of the enforcement teams. The investigator will have ownership of an individual caseload and should be able to demonstrate they have the skills required to undertaking complex investigations. Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to work outside normal working hours, work away from home (including overnight). What you'll do
- Carry out complex criminal investigations and enforce delegated legislation
- Have ownership of an individual case load and work alongside other Investigators to conduct enforcement action.
You will have a full driving licence with experience of: - Conducting complex investigations in specialist areas of criminal investigations
- Interviewing suspects in accordance with PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984)
- Dealing with the public face to face
- Knowledge of intelligence-based systems
- Writing statements and reports to a high standard
- Operating for periods of time with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills building positive relationships with colleagues, various partner agencies
