Full-time | City College Norwich

At City College Norwich, we are proud to provide an inclusive, supportive, and ambitious learning environment where every student can succeed. We are now seeking a skilled, reflective, and people-focused ESOL professional to join us as Curriculum Lead for 16–18 EMSOL. This is a unique opportunity to shape a vital area of provision while continuing to make a meaningful difference in the classroom.

About the Role

This role combines leadership (0.4) with teaching (0.6). You will lead on the development and quality of the ESOL curriculum for 16–18 learners, while also delivering high-quality teaching.

You will be working with a committed and experienced team, supporting them to build on strong practice and further develop a calm, collaborative, and high-performing culture. The role requires a thoughtful and emotionally intelligent leader who can inspire trust, navigate differing perspectives, and bring people together around shared goals.

Alongside this, you will teach a diverse cohort of learners, helping to improve attendance, engagement, retention, and achievement through inclusive and responsive practice.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership (0.4)

• Curriculum Development: Contribute to the design, implementation, and review of a responsive ESOL curriculum that meets the needs of diverse 16–18 learners.

• Team Leadership: Support, coach, and develop a team of ESOL teachers, promoting collaboration, consistency, and professional growth.

• Quality Improvement: Monitor and enhance the quality of provision, using data, observation, and feedback to drive continuous improvement.

• Culture & Communication: Build positive, professional relationships within the team, supporting effective communication and a cohesive working culture.

• Partnership Working: Work with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen provision and support learner progression.

Teaching (0.6)

• High-Quality Teaching: Deliver engaging, inclusive ESOL teaching to 16–18 learners using adaptive and innovative strategies.

• Learner Support: Create a safe and supportive environment that enables learners to engage, attend, and succeed.

• Assessment & Progress: Track learner progress, provide clear feedback, and implement strategies to improve outcomes.

• Inspiring Engagement: Motivate learners to develop confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings both strong professional expertise and outstanding interpersonal skills.

• Qualifications: A recognised teaching qualification and a degree or relevant subject expertise.

• Experience: Significant ESOL teaching experience with evidence of strong learner outcomes.

• People Leadership: The ability to lead with empathy, professionalism, and clarity; confident in supporting, challenging, and developing colleagues.

• Emotional Intelligence: Highly effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, manage sensitive situations, and work constructively with a range of personalities.

• Resilience & Adaptability: Calm under pressure, solution-focused, and able to respond positively to challenge or change.

• Commitment to Inclusion: A genuine passion for working with diverse and potentially vulnerable young people, with a focus on enabling them to succeed.

• Innovation: A reflective practitioner who is open to new approaches and committed to continuous improvement.

Why Join Us?

• Make a Difference: Play a key role in improving outcomes and experiences for a diverse group of young learners.

• Professional Growth: Access excellent development opportunities and clear progression pathways.

• Supportive Leadership: Work within a stable and collaborative leadership structure that values its staff.

• Balanced Role: Combine strategic leadership with classroom practice.

If you are ready to take the next step in your career and lead with purpose, professionalism, and empathy, we would love to hear from you.
