Full Job Description
NWLP is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust.Thepartnership delivers pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 65 million tests per year. Our services are delivered at seven hospital sites across North West London. The Clinical Biochemistry Service, one of the largest in the UK, provides core services in automated laboratories on each site with specialist services centralised at Charing Cross Hospital. Specialist services, including a number of SAS centres, are Endocrinology (including LC-MSMS), Trace Elements, Tumour Markers, Metabolic Biochemistry, Special Proteins and the DEQAS vitamin D EQA programme; all have strong Clinical Scientist leadership. Our 8a clinical scientists are based at Charing Cross hospital and typically spend one day each week as Duty Biochemist dividing their remaining time between two or more of our specialist services where they will receive full training, develop their expertise and contribute to service development.,
- Contribute to the delivery of specialist assays in collaboration with laboratory staff.
- Provide clinical advice and interpretation of results, under appropriate supervision,working alongside senior clinical and scientific staff, including participation in the ClinicalAuthoriser rota.
- Provide specialist analytical expertise to support the delivery and ongoing development ofspecialist services.
- Authorise reports and contribute to an advisory and interpretative service within the specialist area, under appropriate supervision.
- Assist in the development, validation, and implementation of new analytical methods.
- Contribute to the evaluation and selection of laboratory equipment.
- Participate in clinical liaison, clinical audit, teaching, research and development,performance monitoring, and quality assurance activities within the department.

The successful applicant should be state registered and actively working towards FRCPath part 1 (if not already obtained) with post registration experience in all areas of routine biochemistry. We would particularly like to encourage applications from candidates with experience or a specialist interest in renal calculi (FTIR) and HPLC analysis. The post will also cover porphyrin and reducing substances screening., 1st or 2nd Class Hons Science degree or equivalent - Completed suitable scientific training (e.g. Grade A training/STP)
- MSc in Clinical Biochemistry (or equivalent)
- HCPC Registration (Clinical Scientist)
- Part 1 FRCPath, Experience in audit, developmental and project work
- Research publications in a relevant field, Good practical skills and technical competence
- Self motivated; ability to organize own study and laboratory work
- Ability to work as a team member
- Excellent interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work with high level of autonomy
- Flexible, reliable, self-motivated
