Full Job Description
This project is funded for 1 year, by the Wellcome Trust, renewable for a further year depending on progress. The successful applicant will support delivery of the Bac2Bac study at UCL/UCLH, which aims to validate a novel technology for diagnosing pneumonia in critically ill, ventilated patients. The study involves bronchoscopy and the use of a transbronchial alveoscope to directly visualise bacteria in the alveolar space. The postholder will screen and recruit eligible patients, undertake study procedures, and collect samples and data in accordance with the study protocol. They will also have the opportunity to draw on the expertise of the wider multidisciplinary team and develop their own sub-investigation within the broader study. This role is eligible for UCL sponsorship.
The successful applicant will be a medical doctor with full GMC registration. They will be confident in managing mechanically ventilated patients and have experience in bronchoscopy. Training will be provided for the study-specific procedures. The candidate should also have extensive laboratory experience in the area of immune function. They will be able to work effectively across teams and collaborate with external stakeholders, including the Sponsor. The postholder must be highly motivated and able to manage competing demands, as eligible patients will be emergency admissions and may not present within standard working hours. The successful applicant will be expected to adhere to the UCL Ways of Working and, ideally, will have experience of clinical research.
