Full Job Description
The Alumni and Supporter Relations team is responsible for building and sustaining meaningful relationships with UCL's global alumni and supporter community. As Senior Alumni and Supporter Relations Manager (China), you will play a key role in deepening UCL's relationships with influential alumni, volunteers and supporters, helping to strengthen engagement and support the university's strategic priorities. This role will lead alumni engagement activity in mainland China, one of UCL's most important international communities. You will manage relationships with key alumni and prospects, develop and deliver strategic events and engagement initiatives in the region, and work closely with colleagues across Advancement and the wider university to identify opportunities for advocacy, volunteering and philanthropy. You will also contribute to UCL's bicentenary programme and the Here, it will happen campaign, helping to grow a vibrant global alumni community and strengthen UCL's supporter pipeline. Working closely with the Head of Alumni & Supporter Relations (Regions), you will help shape and deliver regional engagement plans, using data, insight and sector knowledge to inform activity and identify opportunities for growth. You will produce high-quality briefings, recommendations and communications for internal stakeholders, and represent UCL during international visits and events, including at times independently or alongside senior leaders. Flexibility is essential, and the role will involve international travel, including to priority regions at least twice per year. We are happy to consider applications to work on a part-time/flexible basis wherever possible (minimum 0.8 FTE - equivalent of 4 days per week, stated salary to be pro-rata). This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 20% on site.
You will have experience managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships. You will be confident working with influential alumni, volunteers, supporters or other external stakeholders, and will bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the credibility to build trust quickly and work effectively with senior colleagues and partners. You will also have experience producing high-quality written communications, such as briefings, reports, proposals or strategy documents, and will be able to translate ideas and priorities into clear, well-judged activity. Strong organisational and project management skills will be essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities, balance strategic thinking with practical delivery, and make sound decisions in a complex environment. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of working with or managing projects or relationships in mainland China and East Asia. Experience in alumni relations, philanthropy, membership programmes, stakeholder engagement or volunteer management will be important, as will the ability to influence effectively and build collaborative relationships across a large and complex organisation. A willingness and ability to travel internationally, including independently and with members of UCL's senior leadership team, is essential. Knowledge of fundraising, particularly within a higher education context, and experience identifying or developing philanthropic supporters would be highly desirable. The ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese, or experience of working in Mandarin-speaking environments, would also be an advantage, as would a clear commitment to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion. We are pleased to accept applications from individuals who possess transferable skills and experience drawn from sectors outside of Higher Education.
