Full Job Description

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our growing Data and Insight Team. You'll play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the council's corporate Data Strategy working with our core technology platform, Microsoft Fabric. You'll help drive transformation that enables evidence-based decision making throughout the organisation and instrumental in the delivery of our single data-enterprise model.

The Data and Insight Team is a forward-thinking group that values innovation and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that make a real difference to our communities. We offer a supportive and inclusive work environment, with opportunities for professional development and growth.

Demonstrable experience in designing, building and maintaining data infrastructure to enable efficient data collection, storage and processing.
Public Sector experience within a transformational data role is desirable.
Experience of designing and developing data models and data architecture, including supporting the development of a data enterprise model.
Design, schedule and orchestrate data pipelines, enabling seamless Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes for efficient data integration, ideally using Azure Data Factory.
Integrate data from multiple sources, including internal systems, open data, and third-party APIs.
Create and manage data warehouses to centralise data for analysis and reporting, ensuring optimisation for query performance and data integration.
Support integration and implementation of data tools for governance, AI and reporting.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders and translate technical jargon into clear actions.

Westmorland and Furness Council is committed to delivering high-quality services to our residents, businesses, and communities. We strive to use data-driven insights to enhance decision-making, improve efficiency, and ensure the best possible outcomes.
