Description
What you'll be doing:
Southdown is the largest not-for-profit provider of care, support, and housing in Sussex. We've been helping people access stable accommodation, mental health and care services since 1972, now counting over 900 people as part of our team.
Are you ready to shape the future of learning in a values-driven organisation? We're seeking a strategic and people-focused Learning and Development Business Partner (LDBP) to act as the vital link between our central L&D function and operational teams. You'll work closely with service leads across areas such as Mental Health, Housing, and Learning Disabilities to diagnose workforce needs and co-create impactful learning plans. Your role will be to ensure that every learning solution-whether eLearning or in-person-is tailored, trauma-informed, and aligned with both service-specific goals and our wider organisational strategy.
As an LDBP, your core purpose is to "diagnose, shape, and champion learning solutions that meet the unique needs of business units, while ensuring alignment to organisational L&D strategy." You'll lead on role-specific training needs analysis, design bespoke programmes for diverse client groups, and evaluate learning impact through real-world service outcomes. You'll also coach and empower managers to foster a culture of continuous learning through developmental supervision and feedback. If you're passionate about making learning meaningful, agile, and embedded in everyday practice, this is your opportunity to make a lasting difference.
Perks and benefits:
- Health cost cash-back scheme: access to our health insurance scheme which covers dental, optical, physical therapies and other medical treatments with the option to add greater levels of cover.
- Interest-free loans: assistance with larger costs that arise such as tenancy deposits, season travel tickets or buying a car.
- Access to the Easit Network: discounts and incentives on train, bus and car journeys such as 15% off eligible daily and season rail tickets.
- Blue Light card: access to discount services for the social care sector with savings across thousands of online shops, restaurants, and high-street vendors.
- Free advice and counselling service: confidential emotional support and practical guidance from our independent telephone service.
- 25 days paid holiday plus bank holidays.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
What you'll need for the role:
- Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, trauma-informed and psychologically informed practices, and sector-specific contexts such as Learning Disabilities (LD) and Mental Health and Housing Support (MHHS).
- Proven experience designing and delivering tailored learning solutions that address operational challenges and workforce development needs.
- Confidence in facilitating coaching, reflective practice, and leadership development sessions that embed learning into everyday service delivery.
- A recognised training qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or equivalent), alongside a commitment to ongoing CPD in relevant areas.
- A full driving licence is essential along with access to your own vehicle or a vehicle insured for you.
What would be nice:
- Additional qualifications or certifications in coaching, digital learning, or instructional design (e.g., CIPD, ILM, Articulate).
- Familiarity with national policy developments, sector innovations, and compliance frameworks relevant to social care and support services.
- Experience managing or supporting a team of trainers to ensure consistent, high-quality programme delivery.
- Confidence using digital tools and platforms to design and deliver engaging blended learning experiences.
Training:
We will help you to gain valuable qualifications, continually develop your skills and build a great career with the largest provider of housing, care and support in Sussex.
