Quality Assurance Officer - Operations

Role: Full-time, permanent
Location: Barnstaple, Devon
Salary: £25k - £35k + bonus + significant benefits

The Role:

We're seeking a meticulous and customer-focussed QA Officer to join the team in supporting our Associate Director Quality at the Barnstaple manufacturing site with a range of QA tasks to ensure all Quality and Regulatory requirements are met and our products remain safe, compliant and of a high standard for release. Partnering with our Operations department, you'll provide support across a range of tasks assigned by our quality management system (QMS) - from generating Product Quality Reviews and approving change controls, to reviewing batch records and approving technical and validation documents. In this varied role, you'll spend time in our Production department providing real-time support to the team - this might include attending functional meetings, resolving any quality issues and assessing the compliance of our new and existing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), raw materials and packaging components against their original specification for use. In addition, you'll conduct and support our investigation and audit activities: assessing anomaly impacts on product quality, identifying root cause issues and establishing corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) and contributing to customer complaint investigations or site visits. To support the smooth running of the department, you'll proactively identify improvements to our Pharmaceutical Quality System, rollout relevant training across the business and have the opportunity to support cross-functional projects, as required.

The Person:

  • Experience in a similar Quality Assurance role or a solid background in Production or Operations (ideally in the in the pharmaceutical industry) you'll have a good knowledge of related EU quality regulations, good manufacturing practice (GMP) principles
  • Product Quality Review requirements and approving change controls.
  • With good experience using electronic document management system and writing clear and concise reports, you'll be used to conducting quality based investigations, root cause analyses and self-inspections.
  • A higher-level science qualification would be beneficial (e.g. A-level, HNC, HND, BTEC, Degree-level)
  • As a person, you're well organised and good under pressure, able to prioritise tasks in a changeable environment and think of solutions on your feet.
  • With a keen eye for detail and methodical approach, you're confident multi-tasking, decisive in your thinking and driven to reach results in set timeframes - even if that means thinking outside the box!
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills are second to none: you build relationships with ease, but can diplomatically negotiate and persuade, when necessary.
  • Good IT skills across the Microsoft Office suite are important.

The Rewards:

In return, we offer a competitive salary package (with bonus scheme), a generous pension scheme and 27 days' holiday per year. We also offer a range of other benefits to support our team, including cycle to work scheme, subsidised restaurant facilities, sports and social club and healthcare options.
