Full Job Description
Our client, a growing and well-established group of care homes in the Hertfordshire area, is looking for an experienced Maintenance Operative to support the smooth running of their homes. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - from keeping buildings and gardens in excellent condition to ensuring essential health and safety checks are completed. If you take pride in your work, enjoy problem-solving, and want a role where your efforts make a real difference to residents and staff, this could be the opportunity for you.,
- Carrying out general maintenance tasks across multiple care home sites, including carpentry, plumbing, decorating, and painting
- Maintaining the grounds and gardens to a high standard
- Conducting routine checks and completing planned maintenance works
- Overseeing key health and safety responsibilities, including fire safety systems and legionella management
- Responding to ad hoc repair needs promptly and effectively
- Taking part in a call-out rota (paid separately) to ensure homes are supported out of hours when required
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar maintenance role (e.g. building, facilities, estates, or property maintenance) - Practical knowledge across trades such as carpentry, plumbing, and general DIY
- Experience with grounds or garden maintenance
- Strong understanding of health and safety compliance, ideally within care, healthcare, or residential settings
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car (essential for travel between sites)
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage a varied workload independently
