About the Role
Are you ready to take the next step in your project management career? We're looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of complex civil engineering projects, including heavy civils, groundworks, earthworks, and infrastructure. Reporting directly to a Project Manager, you'll play a key role in supporting the full lifecycle of contracts or work packages - from engineering and procurement to construction and commissioning. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-impact infrastructure projects in a technically challenging and regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and execution of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities
- Assist in managing contracts valued between £250k and £5m
- Help coordinate up to 200 contractor staff and multiple external stakeholders
- Maintain project schedules (Level 3 and 16-week rolling), ensuring alignment with overall project timelines
- Monitor progress, track milestones, and report on schedule, cost, and risk
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) and continuous improvement principles
- Ensure delivery of all project deliverables (LOD) and compliance with contractual obligations
- Support stakeholder engagement and maintain effective communication across teams
- Contribute to lessons learned and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory standards are upheld throughout the project lifecycle
Nuclear Safety Responsibilities
This role may carry nuclear safety responsibilities as defined in the Nuclear Baseline. A strong understanding of safety culture and regulatory compliance is essential.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience in civil engineering projects, ideally with exposure to heavy civils (groundworks, earthworks, infrastructure)
- Proven ability to support technically complex projects in regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, energy, infrastructure)
- Strong understanding of project controls, cost management, scheduling, and risk management
- Familiarity with NEC or FIDIC contracts
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g., EVM, scheduling software)
Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering, construction, physics, or a related field
- Chartered status (or working towards) with a relevant professional body
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations
- Project management training (e.g., APM Body of Knowledge, PRINCE2)
Desirable:
- Understanding of nuclear quality assurance and graded quality approaches
- Experience in PWR design or operations

Additional Information
Join the team at Sizewell C. The power of good for Britain. It's not every day you get the opportunity to shape the working culture of what will be one of Europe's largest construction projects, while also helping Britain to reach its target of Net Zero emissions by 2050. That's one of the reasons Sizewell C will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before, and you'll need to be an exceptional professional to reach the high standards this critical infrastructure project demands. The UK is experiencing a nuclear renaissance and Sizewell C - along with its sister project at Hinkley Point C in Somerset - is powering the change. We're ramping up at pace as we look ahead to the Financial Investment Decision in early 2025, and the start of construction soon after. With government fully on board and public opinion shifting significantly in favour of nuclear, there's never been a better time to join our project.
By submitting an application to this role, you acknowledge that you have read and understood Sizewell C's employee privacy policy and EDF's employee privacy policy. Just to let you know, EDF will be processing and sharing information about your application on behalf of Sizewell C.
