Full Job Description

We are proud to be a platinum member of the 5% club member based on the quality of training and development of our 'earn as you learn' opportunities. What will you be doing? When you join us as an apprentice, you will:

  • Complete an apprenticeship course relevant to the role, to suit your current education level. At the end of the programme, you will gain a qualification in this field as well as learning the practical skills and hands-on experience doing the job.
  • Join us on our Trainee Development Programme, where you will be given the training and tools to develop your skills through a series of modules over an 18-month period followed by a graduation event.
  • We offer apprenticeships from a level 3 to a degree level apprenticeship fully funded by Galliford Try, tailored to your current education level and course entry requirements. As a Health, Safety & Environmental Apprentice, you will work closely with your manager and team to assist in the safe planning, delivery and review of health, safety and environmental aspects across a variety of projects in all areas of the construction and facilities management industries. You will:
  • Assist the HS&E Advisors and wider HS&E department as and when required.
  • Assist the HS&E Advisors in Weekly Workplace Inspections and the monthly Site Safety Environmental Review (SSER).
  • Attend weekly HS&E and Site Operations Meetings.
  • Assist the promotion of a positive HS&E culture which is consistent with Galliford Try's Challenging Beliefs and Affecting Behaviours programme.
  • Assist the pre-qualification process of sub-contractors applicable to their project or business scope where necessary via company on-boarding system.
  • Assist in the monitoring of site compliance with statutory HS&E responsibilities and the Business Management System (BMS).
  • Assist in the development and implementation of key HS&E road maps or improvement plans.
  • In partnership with the HS&E Advisors review project Construction Phase Plans (CPP), Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) in a timely manner.
  • Assist in reviewing site procedures and practices as required.
  • Gain exposure to incident investigations and formulation of incident reports.
  • Escalate and report any HS&E concerns to the HS&E Senior Advisor, HS&E Advisor or Regional HS&E Manager for the project.
  • Collate and upload HS&E documentation to the electronic systems.
  • Assist in the HS&E Induction process and collect Drugs & Alcohol (D&A) samples.

We invite applications from those who are passionate about the industry, who are leaving education and want to further their studies, or those who haven't yet found a route into construction.
  • You will be willing to learn and get involved in key projects, have the passion, adaptability and a flexible approach to work, along with good communication skills. We are here to support your learning and professional growth; we do not expect you to have any prior experience for this role. To qualify for the apprenticeship study requirements, you must have eligibility to live and work in the UK without restriction. Galliford Try welcomes applications from candidates who would like to work full-time, reduced hours or flexibly and this will be discussed in more detail as part of the recruitment process. We encourage you and would be grateful if you could confirm any requirements we can reasonably fulfil to make this application a positive experience for you.

As a leading construction company, we aim to improve the UK's built environment and deliver lasting change in the communities we work in. Our purpose is to improve lives by building facilities and infrastructure, support our team's growth, promote best practices in our supply chain, and care for the environment. At Galliford Try, we cultivate an inclusive culture where everyone can reach their full potential, emphasizing health, safety and wellbeing through our 'Be Well' program, which offers gym discounts and support for various wellbeing topics. Encouraged by our people-orientated values, we invite motivated and enthusiastic people to join us in making a meaningful difference.

We put our people first and our benefits package reflects that by offering a range of attractive options to help support your career, on top of a competitive apprentice salary.
  • 28 days holiday excluding bank holidays, increasing with years of service, with an option of utilising our holiday purchase scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
  • Agile working programme
  • A range of benefit schemes including: Save as You Earn share purchase scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, Enhanced maternity and paternity leave, Pension scheme, Cycle to Work scheme and discounts on your favourite brands and holidays
