Job ref: adcb6ae32a0b4a4ca4ee7d62414bb08e
Full Job Description
You will lead the delivery of more complex engineering capital projects across the Council's non-building assets including car parks, footways and roadways, bridges and structures, watercourses, and canal and harbour assets. Your role will be to manage the full lifecycle of capital improvement schemes - from developing business cases and briefs to stakeholder engagement, procurement, delivery and handover to the Cient service. You will be supported throughout the project by the other members of the Engineering team and the Council's procurement, finance and legal teams.
About the team:
You'll be joining the council's Engineering Team and will report to the Engineering and Assets Manager. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external consultants, we ensure that infrastructure is safe, sustainable, and fit for the future. The Engineering team is directly responsible for the management and maintenance of non-highways street infrastructure, street furniture and watercourses, and inspecting and advising on the condition of the city's non-building assets.
The team also provides advice, support and project management resource to other services. You will be working closely with other Council teams including the Parks & Green Spaces, Canal & Waterways Teams and Car Parks teams to deliver projects affecting their assets and delivering outcomes to support their service delivery.
We are seeking to recruit a proactive and experienced civil engineer with a strong background in delivering capital projects and asset management works. You will bring technical expertise in engineering and construction, along with a practical understanding of project delivery in a public sector context. Your strengths include stakeholder engagement, project and contract management, budget control, and risk management, and you're comfortable overseeing both complex capital schemes and day-to-day operational support tasks.
At Exeter City Council we are fully committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve.
To support this commitment we will strive to implement reasonable adjustments to support any members of our communities who face barriers in recruitment processes, irrespective of the reason.
We are also proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and have committed to guaranteeing an interview to anyone with a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.
