Full Job Description
Newly Qualified Gas Engineer
Location: Pentre, Clwyd, UK, LL21 9
Application Deadline: 2025-08-14
Join us, be part of more. We're so much more than an energy company. We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn't rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team:
At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We're the household heroes powering 1 in 3 homes in the UK but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We're making the UK's homes greener and more energy efficient, together with our friends at Hive. By using their clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we're making it cheaper and easier to reduce your home's carbon-footprint. And with our Peak Save programme, we're actively rewarding better energy use too.
Role Location: This role is based in Rhondda
Kickstart Your Career as a Gas Engineer and help us achieve our purpose of a Greener, Fairer Future. Limited Spots Available for 2025 ALP Intake!
Salary: ALP salary is £32,866, rising to £43,733 on successful completion of the course. London Weighting applied where applicable.
Classroom training will be held at either our Dartford or Thatcham academies (Accommodation supplied where applicable).
Starting a career in the gas industry can be challenging, especially when you're told that you need experience to get started. At British Gas, we understand that frustration, and we're here to help you break through it. That's why we've created our Advanced Learning Programme (ALP) a unique opportunity designed specifically for newly qualified recruits who are eager to build a rewarding career as gas engineers.
We're looking for motivated and driven individuals to join our team in 2025. If you're ready to invest your time and energy into a programme that will transform you into one of the best gas engineers in the industry, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
- Comprehensive Training: The ALP is a two-year programme combining 40 weeks of classroom training at one of our award-winning academies, alongside hands-on field training to build real-world skills.
- Progressive Learning: Over time, you'll gradually take on more responsibility, gaining practical experience in the field while receiving full support every step of the way.
- Achieve Full Qualification: By the end of the programme, you'll be a fully qualified gas engineer with the knowledge and expertise to excel in your role.
What We're Looking For:
- Qualifications: You'll need current ACS accreditation (including CCN1, CENWAT or CEN1/WAT1, and CPA1).
- Passion and Motivation: If you're committed to learning and keen to develop your skills, we're looking for you!
- A Can-Do Attitude: You'll need the drive to face challenges head-on, embrace learning, and push yourself to succeed.
- Some Experience is a Plus: While experience isn't a requirement, 1 year of hands-on experience in the industry is ideal. But most importantly, we're looking for individuals with the right attitude, motivation, and determination to succeed.
- Driving: Full UK driving licence with 6 points or less is needed.
If you're ready to commit to this exciting opportunity and shape your future with us, apply now! Places on the 2025 intake are limited, so don't miss your chance to start your career with British Gas.
Why should you apply?
We're not a perfect place but we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
Help us, help you. We would love for you to share any information about yourself throughout our recruitment process so that we can better understand you and help shape your journey.
