Full Job Description

This post is suitable as a first NHS consultant, an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult community mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles.

Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority.

You will take part in on-call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.

We have excellent IT and full electronic record across our services and are in the process of a clinician-led design of our own clinical record system.

A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours a week) to support your professional development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory committee and local post-graduate meetings.

This is a newly created post following retirement of 0.6 WTE SAS doctor and 0.2 WTE Consultant psychiatrist. The post holder will work alongside a substantively employed 0.6 WTE consultant, providing consultant leadership for the team. Older peoples services in Devon Partnership NHS Trust has a long history of excellent community based services and has worked innovatively for many years. It continues to be a regional and national leader in developing new initiatives and ideas.

The post exists within the South Hams and West Devon Community Mental Health Team for Older Adults, a well-established multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, psychologist, occupational therapists, and community support workers. This team covers a large geographical area and works from three sites at Totnes, Ivybridge and Tavistock. The post holder will be expected from the Tavistock site based at The Quay, PlymouthRoad, Tavistock, West Devon, PL19 8AB

Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required. Programmed Activities are negotiable for research, teaching, medical management and other special interests., About Devon Partnership Trust
